This Canadian band, now living in Boca Raton, Florida first came on the music scene with their release Lipstick Kiss in the summer of 2004, now the band is back with their sophomore album Another Sound.
The Pretty Faces is a family act made up by, the Thorslund brothers Jeph and Thomas, along with Jeph’s wife Hannah, who if the music thing ever stops paying the bills could get work as an Uma Thurman look-alike.
The band says that they have a respect for music of the past, especially early punk and garage pop/ rock styles. The band blends those styles into their music along with adding their own little touches to keep it fresh and current sounding.
When it works right family bands have that little something extra that makes their music gel together into a perfect music mixture and The Pretty Faces have captured that unique family chemistry on this release.
The 10-songs found on Another Sound feature not only well done lead vocals, but also some very nicely done vocal harmonies that work well, punching up the vocal parts found on the songs to another level of goodness.
This album get started on a high note with the track, “Right on the Money.” The song starts off with a steady drum beat then layers the guitar parts on top of it.
While most of the tracks feature lead vocals from Jeph on track-5,”Elephant,” Hannah Thorslund gets a chance to let her vocal pipes shine.
Other notable tracks include, “Halfway There,” that features a nice controlled guitar solo and “Yellow Highway Lights,” a nice acoustic guitar driven song that showcases the band’s softer side.
The last two tracks, “Pistolera,” and “Sinking Ship,” both work well to finish this release off on a high note.
Fans of artists like, Elvis Costello, The Clarks, and The Strokes will find The Pretty Faces music to their liking.
