Music Review for Relevant Discord- ‘Dual Singles’ EP

The man behind the Relevant Discord band moniker is Nicholas Depew, who is the writer behind all of the songs, bringing in other band members only for live shows along with select members being added for recording studio work.

‘Dual Single’ is a two song EP that is part of a bigger story that Depew is telling that will be released in several installments like different acts of a musical play. Depew is a deep thinker and that shows clearly in his song lyrics that deal with deep questions related to life like loss and hope.

The two songs found on his ‘Dual Singles’ EP would feel right at home on any modern rock station with their sound that’s reminiscent of music acts like, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Red. The songs were recorded with co-producers Rich Veltrop (Rage Against the Machine, Butch Vig) and Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers). Both songs were also mastered by Tom Baker (Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Red).

The sound found on both songs (“The Days of Deferment” & “The Refrain”) are bold modern rock in style using string parts (Scott Fegette-cello & Stephanie Lee -violin) to add vibrant accents to the end sound, that is all topped off by Depew’s well fitting vocals.

Review Takeaway: With his ‘Dual Singles’ EP Nicholas Depew (Relevant Discord) comes out of the gate very strong and has me looking forward to hearing the next act of his musical play.
