I don’t usually review books but when this one was sent to me I decided to give it a read. The award winning (Edward R. Murrow Award, Associated Press Mark Twain Award, TELLY Award) book’s author Todd Starnes is the host of Fox News & Commentary, a daily radio show heard around the nation. He’s also a frequent guest on Fox & Friends and often appears as a panelist on Hannity’s Great American Panel. Todd also hosts a daily web show on Fox News Live and writes a daily blog.
The book’s title, ‘Dispatches from Bitter America,’ comes from back when President Obama was still presidential candidate Obama and during a stop in San Francisco remarked about small town, working-class people, clinging to their guns and being bitter Americans. Stearns, a staunch Conservative, describes himself as a, “gun-toting, chicken-eating, son of a Baptist.”
The main theme of the book is the assault on the Christian faith that’s been growing over the last several years in the United States. The book is a mix of both real events along with stories from Starnes that are filled with his brand of biting and at times sarcastic wit.
You’ll also find several short interviews that he conducted with well known Conservatives including former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, along with Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin and Paula Deen.
If you’re a Liberal and read this book your ears will probably smoke and you’ll breathe out fire and probably burn the book in disgust. If you’re an Independent or Conservative though you’ll be amazed at just how many different ways the Christian faith is being attacked from all sides in today’s world. I try to keep up to date on what’s happening in the world around me but several of the stories that are told in Stearn’s book I’d never heard before and really got my attention as to just how far some people and groups are willing to go in an attempt to wipe anything related to the Christian faith totally out of the public view.
‘Dispatches from Bitter America’ really drives home the point of how political correctness can be misused by as little as one person to force their agenda on the masses.
I was brought up mostly on TV and magazines so my attention span tends to wonder but with the actual book only being 218 pages long ‘Dispatches from Bitter America’ was an easy and well worth it read.
