Review for Philadelphia Based Group the Elwood James Band’s Self-Titled Debut EP

Artist: Elwood James Band
Title: ‘Elwood James Band’

Overall Album Vibe: This self-titled 5-track debut EP from Philly based Elwood James Band offers up a mix of a classic guitar/ drums/ keyboard bluesy rock sound. The band is named after band member Dennis James’ father who was known as, ‘the neighborhood dad,’ opening up his family’s home basement to all of the neighborhood kids to play in. The album is also dedicated to him. The opening mid-tempo, keys filled love song track, “Rain,” gets things off to a strong start. Other highlight tracks include the soulful blues song, “Nobody Rolls,” and “Kinda Lost,” a mid-tempo classic rock sounding song that had just a hint of a Cajun vibe in the background thanks to its keyboard parts. Which is very appropriate being that the song was meant to be a heartfelt tribute to the people of Louisiana after the Hurricane Katrina disaster and the slow government response to it.

Review Tagline: In these musical times that seem to be driven mostly by pimple faced teenyboppers singing about light fluffy issues, its nice to hear a band with some age and wisdom behind their music.
Standout Tracks: “Rain”, “Nobody Rolls”, “Kinda Lost”
