Here’s the latest in my continuing series of postings on music venues found in Johnstown, PA. that I think make it a sleepy hotbed for Indie music, AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival.
If you like the eclectic mix of music found at SXSW’s festival but live too far away to get there but you live in the Northeast part of the U.S.A. then your in luck because the AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival held in Johnstown, Pa. every year the first full weekend in August (this year 7th-9th) offers up lots of great music like that found at SXSW.
The three day event offers up both regional and local talent along with headliner National acts that will fill the skies above Johnstown with a warm glow from all the great music being played at the festival.
The festival started out as part of the National Folk Festival in 1990 but after three years though the Johnstown Area Heritage Association decided to take charge and self produce the event. First renaming the event the Johnstown FolkFest a year later the AmeriServ Johnstown FolkFest after AmeriServ Financial started sponsoring the event. In 2009 the event was changed to it’s current name, AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival since the music played at the event encompassses many more styles of music beside just Folk music.
The festival also made the move in 2004 to its current location from the West End to the downtown Johnstown area and it’s beautiful permanent home Peoples Natural Gas Park. The park was dedicated in a special concert event on June 16, 2012.
Several ticket purchasing options are available including single day and entire weekend passes. Camping and RV parking spots are also available.
