Former Angels are a Brisbane-based band that delivers raw-energy rock which demands your attention. Stav Giouzelis from Blank GC magazine describes them as having ‘big vocals and catchy melodies’, reminiscent of the great days of 1980’s rock.
Unusual for many bands, all four members sing; with such vocal harmonies and additions, the band’s live sound is huge. Former Angels recently captured this in the form of a live album, recorded at a successful headline show at The Zoo in Brisbane and made available for free via their Bandcamp. Their momentum in the live scene is unstoppable, having recently played to one of their largest crowds to date supporting Sydney’s The Lazys at the renowned The Northern in Byron Bay, and backing up to reach the grand final of the first annual Homegrown Battle of the Bands at Brisbane’s The Brightside.
Former Angels are poised to release their debut single, the overdriven, lick-filled “Far Away Star”. The track will see a vinyl release on November 6, and is out digitally via The A&R Department on November 13. The physical version, a limited edition white vinyl 7” featuring streaming B-side LIGHT OF DAY, is available to pre-order now from the band’s Bandcamp.
Recorded and engineered at Blunderbuss Productions by Jesse Nikolic of rockabilly punks Regular Gonzales, “Far Away Star” is the sonic embodiment of a band on the cusp. This is the sound of a years’ pent up energy, a years’ jam- room beers, a years’ sweaty, sweaty gigs – following a tumultuous few years of line-up changes, a new vocalist and a new name.
To coincide with the single launch, the band will be tearing up Queensland and New South Wales on their NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER tour – kicking off with a rampaging hometown party at The Zoo on November 6 alongside Swamp Gully Howlers, Taken By Wolves and Scotch and Cider. The tour will also see the innate chemistry and swaggering stage presence of Former Angels roll through Ipswich, Newcastle, Sydney and Maroochydore.
