Friday afternoon Texas lost their first game of the season 3-0 to Tulsa. Then losing again to the same Tulsa on Saturday by the same score. It was also the first lose of the season for Junior lefty Tiarra Davis in Friday’s game while Texas’ sophomore right-hander Paige von Sprecken took the lose in Saturday’s game. After those two loses mainly caused by the teams inefficent batting they got back in the groove with a 8-1 win over Illinois with Tiarra Davis getting the win. On Sunday the team finished the weekend up on a winning note beating Weber State 5-0 with Tiarra Davis picking up the win. The game started for Texas with Lindsey Stephens home run and the team never looked back from there.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Alabama loaded the bases when a fielding error by Arizona allowed Alabama to score two runs and earn a 4-3 victory over Arizona. Alexis Osorio got the win for Alabama. Saturday the two teams met again on the field but this time Alabama ‘defeated them 9-1 with Sydney Littlejohn earning the win. Sunday afternoon Alabama played against rival SEC team Tennessee. The Crimson Tide took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning but Tennessee fought back in the 5th inning when they tied the game up with 3 runs and then in the 6th took the lead with 2 more runs. Scrappy Alabama though scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th inning to pull off the come from behind win with a 6-5 final score and a full game win for pitching ace Alexis Osorio.
The #1 ranked Florida Gators keep rolling along with their winning ways. The team is now a perfect 16-0. A big part of that winning is thanks to sophomore right-hander Aleshia Ocasio. Florida has not only been winning but destroying their opponents out scoring them by a margin o 109-8.
Tennessee is off to a bit of a shaky start with 5 losses already in this young season. The team seems to be shooting themselves in the foot a lot with inconsistent hitting, leaving runners stranded on base, fielding errors and pitching that has been pretty strong for the most part but has a habit of giving up the long ball or key hits in their games. It’s a long season though and I expect the team to get back firing on all cylinders again soon.
I haven’t gotten to see a full game played by Auburn yet this year and very few people have because most of their games seem to end via the mercy run-rule. The latest being wins over Western Illinois 14-1 along with a 9-0 win over St. John with both games going the 5 innings minimum. Auburn wrapped their weekend up with a 21-0 stomping of Indiana State. Coach Clint Myers has the team on course for a very good season.
