The Misty Mountain String Band

Who is the The Misty Mountain String Band? I think their Twitter page describes them perfectly, ‘Four friends writing and playing music rooted in Americana, Bluegrass, old time, and a few other things. This is what it sounds like when a
banjo smiles.’

The band got it’s start after the guys met at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville Kentucky. While the band members have religious backgrounds their music is mostly life based storytelling more then spiritual with their song lyrics.

The band’s music is filled with beautiful harmony vocals that blend together seamlessly as the instrumentation shines
brightly framing out the songs.

Since August 2012 they’ve been sharing their music at various places from an old-fashioned camp revival to farmer’s markets, parties, cultural events, charity fundraisers, and even at a bourbon festival.

The band list their musical influences to include, Norman Blake, The Dillards, Kentucky Thunder, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Merle Travis, Roscoe Holcomb, John Hartford, and Punch Brothers.

The Misty Mountain String Band is: Brian Vickers (Guitar), Neal Green (Fiddle), Paul Martin (Banjo, Mandolin, Lead Vocals) and Derek Harris (Bass, Lead Vocals)

The groups newest release, ‘Red Horizon,’ is filled with good old time music that has the feel of if I was hiking through the Kentucky mountains and came across a cabin in the woods with a bunch of friends having a jam session on the porch. This is some good American made music!

Thanks to Ariel at Cyber PR for letting me know about these guys.
